This long-anticipated theatre space near Tower Bridge required a flooring package for both their front and back of house spaces. Aspect were appointed by Rise Contracts to deliver such a package, with floor finishes specified by Haworth Tompkins Architects. The result was a smart, classic finish to the space, with a modern edge that reflects their exciting arts programme. Just take a look at the foyer!
A distinguishing feature of the project was the foyer. As the busiest public space in the theatre, the client required a durable floor finish that also suited its purpose as a luxurious social area. Aspect installed 570m2 of Hakwood European oak, finished with a smart single plank black border. The stairs were fitted with the same beautiful Hakwood finish, as well as bespoke black anodised nosings. In addition, specialised trims were custom formed to fit the circular columns in the foyer, as well as those in the auditorium. Each column was individually templated to ensure a perfect fit.
As a final touch, Aspect installed Jaymart Textra matting to the main theatre entrance and revolving doors for an added layer of protection.
The main auditorium of the theatre was another key feature. The client required a highly resilient surface to accommodate audiences of 900 every night and regular reconfiguration of the space. Aspect installed 400 m2 of Regupol Everroll, acoustic rubber flooring that softens the sound of footfall, in all corridors and staircases, together with the basement, ground, and first floor levels.
Dressing rooms, corridors and back of house stairs were fitted with Gerflor Lino Art Alumino LPX linoleum. This hard wearing flooring is ideal for the busy back of house areas, while also providing a smart minimalist appearance in keeping with the rest of the theatre.
